On the 8th November, we had our last assembly till 2nd Wednesday in February. We welcome new members and visitors. Come and benefit from the club’s guest speakers, backyard rambles and the company of individuals with an thinking about gardening.

At our current meeting, we had an interesting talk about Bromeliads.  Galston District Garden Club  purchased alongside a few of his assortment and the members have been in a place to purchase some of his attention-grabbing vegetation. In fact, he had nothing to take home.

For a function plant in a shady or sheltered space within the garden or even for indoors, you can not look previous the Bromeliad. All arising from the same family (Bromeliaceous) there are a extensive range of bromeliads to select from.

They present nice foliage color and form to the garden, can develop in bushes and even produce fruit! Easy to grow and propagate they are a must have for the avid or newbie gardener… They like full solar, common watering, nicely drained/sandy soil, and are appropriate for all climatic zones.

Choose a spot within the garden that receives filtered sun and has well-drained soil. In poorly drained areas, create an elevated mound for free-draining soil or chunky orchid combine. Dig a hole within the ready mounds the identical size as the foundation ball.

Holding the principle body of the plant with one hand, gently backfill the outlet, pushing the soil beneath and across the roots so that the plant is sitting excessive on the mound. If the plant is unstable, you ought to use some helps similar to stones or pots to carry it upright whereas its roots settle in.

Water in well. Ensure that you simply also place some water into the central a part of the plant, as that is where they attract further moisture as properly. Food every spring and autumn with Dynamic lifter soil improver and plant fertiliser by making use of around the root zone and water in nicely.

Our meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday of the Month at 37 Arcadia Rd, Galston the Community Hall at 7.00pm. Our subsequent meeting might be in February 2024. For info concerning our Club please go to our web site: www.galstongardenclub.com.au or e-mail: galstongardenclub@gmail.com
